Developed by TMCIGlobal, this interactive, engaging online course is designed for providers in the State of Ohio seeking to gain basic knowledge about the use of medical cannabis and participate in the Ohio Medical Marijuana Control Program. This self-paced course is composed of three highly visual lessons and is approved for 3.75 AMA PRA Category I Credits™, and meets the CME requirements necessary for physicians to participate in the Ohio Medical Marijuana Control Program. Upon completion of the course, you will be able to:

  • Describe the current landscape of recommending medical cannabis
  • Evaluate the evidence for treating patient conditions with medical cannabis

The Ohio Medical Marijuana Certification Course from MedicalMarijuanaCME.org will help physicians make informed decisions regarding medicinal cannabis treatments for their patients. This activity provides an evidence based analysis of marijuana's efficacy, risks and benefits in treating Ohio's approved conditions. The science, safety and impact of medicinal cannabis will be explored, in order to enhance physician knowledge of this emerging healthcare resource. This activity has been approved for 4 AMA PRA Category I credits, and meets the CME requirements necessary for physicians to participate in the Ohio Medical Marijuana Control Program.

TheAnswerPage offers two course options to satisfy the CME requirements for the initial Ohio Certificate to Recommend (CTR) application:

  • "The Ohio Healthcare Provider Medical Marijuana Course Bundle for Certification"

  • "The Ohio Healthcare Provider Medical Marijuana Course Bundle for Certification PLUS "

Both courses introduce the reader to the endocannabinoid system and its interaction with the components of the cannabis plant, and address administration, therapeutic use, drug metabolism, physiologic and cognitive effects, potential risks, and drug interactions. The use of marijuana in obstetric, pediatric, adolescent and elderly patients is addressed in detail, too. Also, considerations for patients with ischemic heart disease, hepatic disease, psychotic illness, and/or a history of drug dependence are provided. The "PLUS" course also addresses the use of CBD in clinical care, and assists clinicians with counseling CBD consumers.

Learners who choose "The Ohio Healthcare Provider Medical Marijuana Course Bundle for Certification" can earn up to 3.0 AMA PRA Category 1™credits , and learners who choose the " PLUS " can earn up to5.0AMA PRA Category 1™ credits . Content also provides Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Psychological Association (APA), and American General Dentistry (AGD) credits, so other clinicians in your practice can earn credits while learning about medical marijuana.

Subscribers can complete the curriculum and access it throughout their 12-month subscription.

* physicians may take this or any other course in medical marijuana that is approved for AMA PRA Category 1 credits.

Physicians who hold a CTR in Ohio must earn two hours of approved medical marijuana education each year. Credit earned by completing both of these videos may be used towards this requirement. By successfully completing these webinars, the learner should be able to:

  • List qualifying conditions updates
  • Discuss adverse reactions to medical marijuana
  • Utilize proper documentation and medical record keeping
  • Describe interactions with regulatory agencies


The Ohio State Medical Association is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The OSMA designates this enduring activity for a maximum of 2.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity..
